Periodontics (Gum Treatment)

Periodontics is the branch of dentistry specializing in the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of periodontal (gum) disease. Periodontal diseases are bacterial infections that destroy the attachment fibers and supporting bone that hold the teeth in the mouth. Left untreated, these diseases can lead to tooth loss. Treatments would include routine scaling and polishing, root planning and gum surgery. Patients will need to be placed on a treatment programme, and upon completion put on a maintenance protocol for long term stability.
